For you PC users…you should switch to a Mac, or at least go Linux. But for those who don’t…

Microsoft’s new OS, Vista, is coming in 7 different flavors that will consist of the Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Small Business, Enterprise and Ultimate Editions! I can only imagine the fun-ness of the pricing schemes for the different packages.

The Starter edition apparently allows only 3 concurrent applications (so Alicson, this one isn’t for you); and isn’t suitable for most games. Who would buy this? 3 applications? Really?

Home Basic and Premium seem to be the equivalent of XP Home inasmuch as that the majority of the nonbusiness people will be using one of these. The main difference seems to be media capabilities. DVD ripping, setting up podcasts (ironic, no?) Though I’m sure it’ll be supporting as many Microsoft products as possible.

The next three, the Business centered ones aim more for their namesake. Domain support, networking protocols, encryption and whatnot. The Ultimate edition, besides offering the lamest name ever, also offers just about every possible bell and whistle.

After reading the article, I’m wondering how Joe Q. Public will take to the fact that there are now 7 versions of this OS running around. What’s the price difference them as well? Are they upgradable? The Ultimate Edition sounds like a huge Memory and RAM hog. What specs are we looking at to comfortably run these Operating Systems?

I feel bad about how suspicious I am of anything Microsoft, but so it goes…

And on sadder news, the wonder that is Apple seems to be spectacularly good at dropping the ball lately. With their patent issues with Microsoft and Creative, it looks as if the new iPod Nano has the same name none other, but Creative’s Nano as well! How’d they miss this? Or did they do this to stick it to Creative?

Any one know about any legal implications of using the same name? Although I want to be a lawyer one day, it doesn’t mean I know any of it now…
