First off, go watch/download/steal/borrow/buy the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy that just aired on Sunday night. While I’ll be the first to admit that the first two episodes of the series were terrible, the series has grown impressively since then.

Last night’s episode was about fear and pain. For anyone who’s read this site in the past year, those two issues have been consistent themes on this site and in my mind.

It’s not hard. It’s painful, but it’s not hard. You know what to do already, if you didn’t you wouldn’t be in so much pain.

The truth is quite simple. Actions, or lack thereof, define an individual. Thoughts and dreams are wonderful, but action is required. It’s not hard inasmuch as that the majority of things, ambitions, goals and objectives are possible to achieve. But sacrifice and difficulty are required to achieve the dreams. It’s painful, but not insurmountable.

In addition to being a well directed, written and acted show, the music tends to rock. This episode featured one of my favorite singers, Mike Doughty – former singer of the awesomely awesome Soul Coughing – singing I Hear the Bells. This song is beautiful, I love Mr. Doughty’s voice and his lyrics have always been first rate.

I hear the bells down in the canyons, it’s
Snow in New York
Some blue December, I’m
Gone to the moon
Without you, girl, and I’m
Calling to you
Throughout the world and well I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and

I hear the bells
They are like emeralds, and
Glints in the night
Commas and ampersands
Your moony face
So inaccessible
Your inner mind
So inexpressible

I’m seeking girls
In sales and marketing
Let’s go make out
Up in the balcony
Your business dress
So businesslike and I’m
Tossing the blouse
Over a chairback and

You snooze, you lose
Well I have snost and lost
I’m pushing through
I’ll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
So fascinating and
I’ll slug it out
I’m sick of waiting
