I picked up Things I’ve Learned From Women Who’ve Dumped Me a couple of months ago, and it’s a quick and entertaining read. I was talking to a friend recently about it, and while the anthology is really amusing and makes you smile about these guys straight out of Judd Apatow movies, at the end of the day it’s sortof sad that all these people, myself included here, are in their mid to late 20s and early 30s and are just now coming to realizations like: being honest and open is incredibly important and relevant in relationships; being ‘the nice guy’ will likely not get you laid; and pushing a woman away as a result of your insecurities is not a good idea, etc.
Sometimes love goes wrong because your partner changes. Sometimes it fails because you change. But, more often than not, love fails because you stop appreciating what you’ve got.
And while the overall anthology is certainly amusing, I can’t also help but be a bit depressed by the fact that, well…no duh, guys. Let’s get to it and move on, gentlemen…there are better and more important things in our lives and they damn well should be shared by that woman who should be standing next to us as we do it together and help each other along the way.
